Music Is My Boyfriend, Tardiness Edition

This should have been my gay pride post, but um, yeah tardiness edition. The Hidden Cameras, Toronto's own gay church folk band, has recently transformed itself into a live power house, trading in tweeness for over the top apocalyptic pop and arrangements that must have involved some sort of transaction with the devil. The group's forthcoming album, Awoo, is slightly stripped down, full of surprises, memorable hooks and moments that will almost physically force a grin on your face.

The Hidden Cameras- "Awoo"

The Hidden Cameras- "Lollipop"

And continuing with the late theme, Summer isn't almost here. That proclamation expired around June 20th. But I. Don't. Care. Seeing Detroit's foppish, poppy, dandyish Pas/Cal at Mercury Lounge last week got me in the mood to post that band's nifty Summer Is Almost Here.

Swedish Indie Goodness

We admit to being a bit nutty about our love for Swedish Indie Pop. It's for that reason that we're thrilled to be having a Labrador Records DJ set at the upcoming Mondo. Check out some of my favorite tunes from their catalog here:

Acid House Kings - Tonight Is Forever, finger snappin' good tune, for fans of Saint Etienne, Belle & Sebastian, and The Concretes.

The Legends - Call It Ours, catchy-jangly-hand-clappin' pop tune, for fans of Jesus & Mary Chain and The Ceasars.

The Radio Dept - Pet Grief, simply beautiful shoegazer'y bliss, for fans of My Bloody Valentine and the like.

Tribeca - The Sun Always Shines On TV, (not a cover) straddles perfectly between guitar and synthy-pop. For fans of New Order and Soviet.

Learn more about these artists and more at the Labrador Records website.
