Hello Brooklyn Museum People!
A huge thanks to everyone who came out to the First Saturday dance party at the Brooklyn Museum last night. We had an incredible time playing for you and we hope you had as much fun as we did.
Here are a few selections from our set last night.
Baxendale - "I Built This City" Lots of people asked about this one. This gem has been a Mondo staple since Dr. Maz rescued it from obscurity a few years ago.
The Whip - "Sister Siam" I thought the Whip was simply going to be a New Order sound-a-like when I first heard them. They've evolved into a clubbier act heavier on synths and lighter on guitars. They seemed like the perfect choice to up the dance quotient late in our set last night.
Happy Mondays - "24 Hour Party People" Miss Modular opened the night with this jam and let you all (and us, the other DJs) that she meant business. A total Manchester, fists-up classic.
Spearmint - "Sweeping The Nation" A song near and dear to my heart, it really epitomizes what Mondo is all about-- fun, anthemic, silly and a champion of musical underdogs and the joys of obscurity.
And also a bonus song that I didn't get a chance to play:
Crisis - "Consequences" A charity single impossible to get in the U.S. (digitally or otherwise) featuring Paul Weller, Beth Ditto of the Gossip, members of New Young Pony Club and other British luminaries, the song is super-catchy and perfect to shimmy around with all afternoon.
Come check us out this Friday at our regular spot, Don Hill's for more dancing, more music and more fun.
love and rock,
Kevington
