It's The Love
Sometimes I describe Mondo as a labor of love. And yes, that's kind of a trope, but it's true. There's no way in hell I'd be schlepping music across town every other Friday if I didn't love the party, love my fellow DJs love our crowd, and of course love the music. Here are a few ways I'm feeling the love right this second.
I can compromise on a lot of points, but I can't compromise on my quasi-religiously held belief that Kim Deal is a genius. I love her like no other producer of culture and lucky me, her band, the Breeders, have a new album, Mountain Battles, due out in April. The album is a deliciously weird, deconstructed "rock" album with almost no obvious pop songs. Except for this one (a cover of a song originally done by Dayton indie pop outfit The Tasties):

One of the other things that's great about doing an indie dance party is getting music tips from people who come. I noticed that a couple of people who have been known to grace our dance floor were into Moscow Olympics, a semi-mysterious and wonderfully dreamy pop band from the Philippines. I checked them out and immediately fell under the spell of this track. It's just the thing for sunny boat rides, walks in the snow, or just dancing like you're floating in space:

And it would almost not be a Mondo post without a mention of something Swedish. In this case, it's the fantastically hooky and instantly likable new band The Bell. If Interpol had recorded a pop album and been a bit more into Echo and the Bunnymen, it might sound a little something like these guys. Listen and love:

All for now, and make sure you check out our main page and don't miss The Indelicates at their U.S. debut Mondo March 7th.
