Gerund Dance Attack

Leave it to Nouvelle Vague to transform the Billy Idol masturbation anthem turned wedding reception favorite into a breezy, Ragtime flavored ditty. "Dancing With Myself" is from the French new wave/ Bossa Nova project's forthcoming Bande A Part.

Mondo fave New Young Pony Club (thanks Dr. Maz) can apparently do no wrong. Despite having released only three singles for a total of six tracks (ok, and a remix), NYPC has already created more memorable songs than some bands do over the course of multiple albums. Check out their new B-side, the silly, infectious "Hiding on the Staircase." This one's a grower--I dare you to resist the weird charm of its rubbery bassline, kooky lyrics and tropical percussion. Love I say. It must be love.

Girls Bite Back

It seems to me, that last year there'd been a deficit of girl-fronted bands on the radar. While the Yeah Yeah Yeahs worked on their new album and The Organ's outstanding debut faded into distant memory, the indie music scene had been all caught up with the Bloc Party's, Art Brut's and Wolf Parade's of the world. But in the last 6 months or so, I've noticed a significant resurgence of girl bands. Yey! They've spanned all genre's too. From Folk Rock to Post Punk. So, I predict, this year will be the year of the girl-fronted band. Long Blondes, Pipettes and Love Is All have already made their mark on 2006. Here are a couple others that I've been listening to and you should too:

Kiss Me Deadly - Dance 4
Ladyfuzz - Hold Up
Magneta Lane - Constant Lover
