Sleeper Hits

As DJ's we take great pleasure in creating dance floor hits specific to Mondo. In fact since its very inception, Mondo has yielded its own variety of "signature classics" . The kind you'd probably not get to dance to anywhere else in this city. It's sort of our secret mission.

The problem with being in this constant state of "hits hunting" is that we often forget how much pleasure non-danceable tracks bring us. This is hard to fathom i know. After all, some of the most pivotal bands of the past are nearly impossible to dance to (think of MBV's "When You Sleep" and Lush's "Sweetness and Light" for example). Here are 4 great tracks I've been listening to that may not ever fill a dance floor to capacity, but manage to fill my ears—and hopefully yours—with pleasure....

We're From Barcelona - by Swedish pop mavens I'm From Barcelona

A Ghost In This House - by Irish lads The Immediate

Postcards From Italy - by local ethereal talent Beirut

Moonglow - by Shoegaze revivalists Soundpool

Take the first bus, take the first plane

How I spent my summer vacation:

Anticipating a spastic, sunny alternate reality of office buildings that have secet hatches to wave pools. Maccabees- "Latchmere"

Bedroom Dancing. The Ballet- "In My Head"

With my fist in the air, shouting. The Long Blondes- "Lust in the Movies"

Dreaming on airplanes. Sonic Youth- "Jams Run Free"

Longing. Mary Lou Lord- "Some Jingle Jangle Morning"

Licking my wounds, smiling against my will, and in the early, anticipatory hours of Mondos. Le Sport- "It's Not The End of The World"
