Bedroom Music

A few weeks ago I went to see the legendary Trembling Blue Stars (Ex-Field Mice band) at Rothko with a few friends. One of my friends had had a long week and was feeling particularly tired. At one point he turned to me and said "This band is great, but they are classic 'bedroom music'"; they were excacerbating his pre-existing lethargic state. When I turned back to the crowd and continued to listen, I imagined that the crowd slowly disappeared and that only I remained sitting on a bed in the middle of the floor having Trembling Blue Stars play just to me. He was right, as enraptured as I was at the beautiful music that they played, I had to agree that this type of music was best experienced in your bedroom (ideally staring at the ceiling).

This brings me to the subject of today's blog entry. I decided I would rundown some of my favorite "bedroom music" tracks for good measure. Creating a sort of virtual mixed tape. I tried to pick not-so-obvious ones (like Air, Sigur Ros, Cocteau Twins and that sorta' thing). I promise to start an "mp3 blog" of sorts very soon; in the meantime, maybe some folks can hunt these down and bring them to fruition on cassette, cdrw, or whatever...
