Metric New York

Apologies for the long delay in posting. I've apparently not been blessed with a knack for blogging. I am too much of a perfectionist and this gets in the way of my blogging on a regular basis. (Let me believe that one, won't you.) But I went to see Metric last night at Bowery Ballroom and I felt I finally had an experience that was worthy of an entry...

The Metric show yesterday was FANtastic! It was the first time I was brought to tears at a show in a while. It's always the slow songs that get me (mostly). They put on a great show and the crowd was very enthusiastic. I also danced around quite a bit as Miss Emily Haines, swerved in and out of being completely endearing & seductive to down right scary looking...but sounding consistently brilliant. The live performance of Dead Disco alone was worth every penny spent to see them.

I'm surprised how far they've gotten with a release on a small label. It is admirable. The show was sold out at the last minute, although it didn't necessarily feel that packed. Anyway, gathering from the painfully unsuccessful crowd dives that took place, I would say that the place was definitely not packed to the gills.

My only gripe about the show was the two head-banger rock bands that preceded Metric. I don't know what THAT was all about. My affinity for Motley Crue'sque music is pretty much nil, so who am I to judge? But even my friend who has a soft spot for hair bands and metal, wasn't enjoying it. I mean it was just this blatant showmanship of technical prowess. Like "look at me! Look how well I can rock this guitar and/or drums!" But the music was borderline absent. Totally unnecessary.

Til next time...
